The USTA is pleased to announce a new and exciting unpaid referee internship opportunity for youths 16 years or older. Officials ensure fair play, help tournaments run smoothly, and teach the rules of the game and their implementation. Interns will work closely with Head of Official of the Western Section, Ken Grassel, and intern, Tristan Pham, to learn tennis match management. Meetings will be held over zoom. There is a mandatory four month commitment to the program with in person court training. Following the completion of the program, interns will receive a USTA Official Certification to referee USTA matches. There are 10 spots available and acceptance decisions will be made by January 1, 2024.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Meet remotely for 1 hour on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the months of January, February, March, and April
• Attend one mandatory on court training (location TBD)
• Officiate a Level 7 tournament (TBD)
